So Passionate!

Passionfruits have a special place in my heart. Maybe because I grew up in France where having tropical fruits is a special treat? Maybe because the flowers are so gorgeous?

I thought I’d make a little illustrated Grow Guide for passionfruits since September is the best time to plant/sow them!

For the little story…

We planted a passionfruit vine in the chicken area over a year ago, against a fence, with wires above the area for the vine to attach to. The first mistake was: chickens love eating passionfruit leaves! The cheeky chicken would sit on top of the fence and have a feast! We made the fence higher…

In January we started seeing the first flowers, attracting in the meantime so many bees of all sorts. A beautiful time.

I love observing the transformation from flower to fruit.

In May we started eating our first homegrown passionfruits! They were delicious! We gave some to the neighbours, froze some in ice trays. And of course SO MANY PAVLOVAS!

With the winter cold though, the passionfruits can get sour and not so good to eat on their own (my toddler doesn’t mind though). For me it’s just not edible. So yesterday I tried something new and I made passionfruit cordial.

Guess what? It’s sooo good!

I used that recipe from Taste. Next I will try passionfruit curd and maybe passionfruit butter… ;)

Have you tried Passionfruit cordial before?

What’s your favourite recipe that uses passionfruit?

Do you grow passionfruits?
