Salisbury Community Garden Mural #1

I recently had the opportunity to design the mural for Salisbury Community Garden which is located within the Salisbury State School. After consultation with the community garden members and the school’s parent association (P&C) I came up with these fun and friendly illustrations! A big thank you of Imogen from the P&C, for giving me this task!

There are 6 walls, about 28m length in total, 1m80 high for the highest, 1.20m hight for the shortest. The P&C was already in possession of many painting pots as they had previously done some murals for the school. I drew the digital illustrations on my iPad using those colours.

Below are the mock ups of the digital illustrations on to photos of the walls after the background was painted.

Now for the real life painting!

After a prep of the walls (aka pressure cleaning / primer), Imogen and I painted the background of the illustrations: the blue sky and the brown soil.

Then it was time for a movie night. Not really, haha! We did have a projector and some French cheese though! By a very cold night of winter, we managed to trace all the designs on the walls, ready to be painted on the day after! We used exactly 2 full pencils!

From that moment, lots of people came to help out, from the community garden, from the school, friends, family. It has been a real community building process.

Now, we still have lots of work to do to finish the mural. Let’s get together and give this project a boost! There will be a rock painting station for the kids and a visit of the community garden as well. See you on Sunday ;)
